Okay, read my review with a grain of salt because my experience with Indian food is quite limited. But I have to say, I was not impressed with this place.
We came early on a Saturday night and were seated right away. The person who sat us quickly brought glasses and a corkscrew for our wine. Our waitress came and took our order for appetizers. The samosas were good, as were the potato slices covered in chick pea flour and deep fried. But the lamb, while spicy with a nice flavor, was way too dry and neither of the sauces (one spicy, one overly sweet) complemented it.
A different person came to take our dinner order. I was dissapointed that they didn't have naan, so we ordred 2 kinds of bread (one grilled, one fried). Both were okay, but nothing great. The chicken tikka masala was dissapointing. Yes, this was my first time having it, but my husband loves it and gets it all the time and he agreed, it was really bland.
After we'd finished, we sat for about 20 minutes before someone finally came back to check on us, realize that we had piled our plates on the end of the table, and bring us a box and our bill.
Another 10 minutes went by before a different person came back to run our card. Normally I'll forgive slow service if the food is good and the prices are low (which this was - 3 apps, 2 breads, rice and an entree were $28) but the food was just lacking. If it was just me, I'd write it off to my inexperince with Indian food, but my husband agreed. I'll definately be trying more Indian, but I don't think I'll be back to Hema's.
