Camarillo O Says:  Caring For Braces to Get the Best Results From Orthodontics Sep, 18 2009
Having a Camarillo orthodontist put braces on your teeth isn't the end of the world.
It’s a terrific way to get a gorgeous smile. Although having braces shouldn't
affect your daily life too much, there are several restrictions that will prevent the
braces from becoming damaged. Here are some things you can do to guarantee you have
positive and successful orthodontic treatment.

Food Choices:

Some foods should be avoided while undergoing orthodontic treatments because they can
damage the braces. Sticky foods, like candies, can stick into the hard to reach areas of
your braces and add to the prospect of tooth decay. It also helps to steer clear of drinks
high in sugar. Your Camarillo orthodontist will also recommend that you remove hard,
sticky, and crunchy foods from your diet. These foods can bend and break the wires that
are keeping the tension on your teeth.

Hard objects such as pencils, fingernails, and even ice cubes can also seriously damage
your braces. Another big no-no is popcorn. The husks of this snack can get stuck in your
gum line, get stuck under the braces, and the un-popped kernels can break the wires or
become jammed between the braces. Foods high in citric acid such as lemons can dissolve
your teeth's weakened enamel.

Dental Care:

Brushing with a soft bristled toothbrush a few times per day is crucial to keeping the
braces and your teeth clean and free from decay and gum disease. Flossing will take more
time, but it is required once the orthodontics have been placed on your teeth. Using a
Waterpik before brushing and flossing will give you the best results.

Even though adjustments can be painful, they make sure you get good results. You should go
to all of your appointments so the position of your teeth and braces can be checked and
treated if they need it. Missing appointments may mean having to live with braces longer
than you originally planned. If you notice your braces have broken between visits, it is
important to go in as soon as possible to have them fixed.
